Investments
Time is part of the investment case.
Marex Capital deploys capital selectively, seeking investments with scope for value to develop over an extended period of ownership. The ability to work productively with management or investment partners is an important part of that assessment.
Our Approach
Different ways to participate.
-
Direct Investments
We commit capital directly to selected businesses and assets. The investment case needs to support a sustained position, with an understanding of how Marex Capital will work with the people responsible for its development.
-
Private Equity
Marex Capital considers equity participation in privately held businesses. We look at the company’s commercial direction and the ownership arrangements supporting it, with particular interest in the scope for working alongside management as the business develops.
-
Co-Investments
We participate alongside other investors in a specific transaction. The opportunity is considered together with the proposed terms of participation and the responsibilities of those involved. A shared investment requires a workable basis for cooperation throughout ownership.
-
Real Assets
Our remit includes property and infrastructure, giving the office exposure to physical assets and their underlying uses. We consider the investment in relation to the asset’s function and the time over which its value is expected to develop.
-
Strategic Opportunities
We consider selected investments with a defined commercial purpose. The connection between the capital committed and the intended business outcome is central to the assessment. This includes understanding how the investment fits with the wider interests of the participants.
Before Commitment
A reason to own. A role to play.
Marex Capital looks for opportunities where the ownership horizon suits the investment. Our assessment also addresses the practical basis for participation.
- The holding period
- What needs to develop during ownership for the investment to succeed? We consider the progress required and the time available to achieve it.
- The working relationship
- How will Marex Capital work with management or investment partners? The proposed arrangement should support direct engagement with the people responsible for the business or asset.
- The contribution
- Where does our network or international experience have practical relevance? We look for a specific connection between the opportunity and the resources our office brings.
After Investment
The work continues after commitment.
We seek an ongoing working relationship with the people responsible for the business or asset. Our involvement draws on the experience and contacts relevant to that particular investment.
The contribution is specific to the opportunity. It includes relevant business introductions and collaboration with investment partners on matters connected to the development of the holding.
Sectors
Across industries. Close to the business.
Energy and commodities
Our remit includes energy and commodities, with an interest in the resources supporting production and consumption. We consider the relationship between physical supply and the commercial demand for it.
The position of an opportunity within the value chain is important to Marex Capital. We consider how it is exposed to commodity prices, including whether changes affect the revenue it earns or the cost of its inputs.
Industrial businesses
We consider industrial companies through the work they perform for their customers. The ability to turn production capability into dependable delivery is central to the commercial appeal of these businesses.
Our interest extends to the relationship between production capacity and customer requirements. This includes the company’s dependence on suppliers and the role its products or services play in customers’ operations.
Technology
Marex Capital’s interest in technology is grounded in its application to business needs. We look at what a product enables its users to do and how it becomes part of their operations.
Customer adoption provides the commercial context for the technology. Our attention is on how use of a product translates into business for its provider, with consideration given to the needs it addresses for customers.
Financial Services
We consider businesses involved in the provision and administration of finance. Our interest includes the commercial relationships through which capital reaches businesses and supports transactions.
Marex Capital considers the function performed by the business and how it earns revenue from that activity. Its obligations to customers are part of that context, alongside the regulatory requirements relevant to its operations.
Real Estate
Our interest in real estate begins with the property and its intended use. We consider its location in relation to occupier needs, with attention to how the asset supports the activity taking place within it.
The investment connects a physical property with the market it serves. Marex Capital considers the requirements of maintaining the asset and the capital needed to support its continued use.
Logistics
Logistics connects the movement of goods with the businesses depending on their arrival. Marex Capital considers opportunities involving the transport and storage functions that support those commercial relationships.
Our interest is in how a business fits within the flow of goods from supplier to customer. We consider the connection between available capacity and the delivery commitments the business is expected to meet.
Infrastructure
Marex Capital’s infrastructure interests concern the networks and assets supporting economic activity. We consider the relationship between the physical asset and the service delivered through it.
This gives the sector a distinct ownership context. The requirements of maintaining an asset are connected to the dependability of the service it supports, making the operating arrangements an important part of the opportunity.
